Whether you are meeting a new friend, going on a date, or networking in a business setting, it's always in your best interest to put your best foot forward especially if you're plus-sized. This may not be an easy feat for the plus-sized business owner or even a plus-size business.
It seems like we forget to tell our peers that you must have thick-skin as a plus-size business owner. It's not easy to admit it, but we judge a book by a cover all the time. In just a few nano-seconds, we make our own assessments of the people we interact with on a daily basis. To be honest, not everyone finds the curvy woman attractive and not every plus-size business owner is willing to put their face or should I say body on the line. You can expect to get disrespectful comments, so be prepared to ignore or handle it with the utmost confidence.
Be confident in what you're offering to your client, be confident in yourself as an entrepreneur, be confident in your marketing, be confident in your message, be confident in your customers.
Spotlighting yourself and your business requires a great amount of confidence & "shameless" attitude. It's a risk not many are willing to take, but if you plan to run a profitable plus-size business, a confident image (both personal and professional) is key and very necessary.
In addition to creating a confident image, it's important to reflect the image of your customers. This helps to solidify the customer-centric part of your business. Your customers will instantly know who you serve because you've turned the mirror on them. You're sending them a message that you know who they are, your business is designed for them, and you want to stay connected with them.
Social media has helped to make personal branding and business branding more one in the same. No one wants to deal with automated voice systems or press 9 to speak to the janitor's manager anymore. So if you take the time to reach out to your customers and represent them, you'll be well on your way to making a lasting impression. Think about it, we admire companies that unapologetically represents the full-figured community.
Many Brand Consultants and Image Stylists will tell you what clothes to wear in what networking environment. They'll tell you to make sure your business cards match your website and your e-newsletter. Looks are important, but to be frank, if you don't have confidence in who you are and what you're offering...if you don't have the guts to represent your customers, then it's not a pretty image at all.
