I need your opinion on something, please. A lot of folks here know me from Twitter, as @perfectlyshaped - but not a lot know me from my OLD Twitter account, Caseyfern. Fern was a nickname I got while I was doing game development on Legends of Karinth, which I just shut down in April 2009 after nearly a decade online.
Casey has been my nickname since the early 1970s, acquired while working in an Seattle area office packed full of Marys. When someone would yell 'Hey, Mary!' a bunch of us would ge…

We hear a lot about the plus size apparel marketplace here in the United States, often to the exclusion of the rest of the world. Today, however, let's look at how one woman has improved the plus size apparel situation for her home country of Thailand.
Here's Surivipa Kultangwattana's story as featured in the Leisure > Women section of today's Bangkok Post:

Take a gander at Softpedia's Life & Style Editor Elena Gorgan's
write-up on The Curvy Fashionista soon to be launched by Perfect Social Club featured member
Marie Denee - great press and a strong supportive statement for the cause. Not to crib, so I'll just quote:
“While many retailers a…

I read and empathized, heartily, with this woman who feels marginalized by the fashion choices she's been able to find for plus size (or at least on the borderline of plus sizing) bridesmaid attire. Left a comment on our behalf, then read the comments. So many expressing upset, so much bitterness. And some comments that one would think that human decency and respect would prevent from being written on a public forum.
I won't quote the comments here. But I welcome your comments in response to wh…

Love it or hate it, Twitter has grown to impact many of our lives, from the way we make contact with friends and business partners to the way we get instant news pulses, 140 characters at a time. Some users check their Twitter pages for replies and DMs (Direct Messages) before they tackle their morning mail. Some even log in before their morning coffee stops perking (yep, that's me too).
So Thursday's denial-of-service attack on Twitter and the ensuing downtime has been a brutal shock to the sy…

Anyone else feeling it, too? The sense of exception processing, wrapped in a thinly coated lack of size acceptance and frosted with a big glob of being different?
As tempting as it is to ramble and rant about these two shows, I'd much rather hear what you have to say about them. Let 'er rip!

Just to prove that inspiration to celebrate can come from the strangest places... I"m celebrating having my name fall onto Page 3 of the Members list at The Perfect Social Club. Why is this such a big thing?
Well, I remember when we first started, when there were two members on that list - mine and Kate's. She encouraged me; I encouraged her - we shored each other up and cheered each other on... a social club of two good friends. If I recall, at the time, the artwork for the site was pretty bla…

I'm seeing a trend, my fellow Fashionistas. Scattered out and around the internet universe, circling like malevolent meteorites (meteoroids?) and seemingly incapable of coalescing to a coherent shout.
Many of us complain about not being able to find plus size apparel, fashionable or otherwise. Many rant, many rave, many pose the problem, many propose solutions - goodness knows there are dozens of sites that position plus size retailers within easy view (mine included, I hope).
We New Normals a…

[widget should show up here...] http://widgetserver.com/syndication/GetWidget/opensocial/b4b90d28-9726-49a3-bb62-c29889c85634
Since the Stylefeeder.com direct widget doesn't seem to behave with Safari, I attempted to place the Widgetbox.com version - I have my Stylefeeder membership active so that step is out of the way. Let's see how this does.
Well, the short answer is.. it doesn't. I used the Widgetbox export to Ning, copied in the code at the top of this post, and published. No widget. In…

In this weekend's People magazine interview, Kelly LeBrock states that she's okay with a curvier body. This is a person who was well known for her size-2 state in movies like Weird Science and The Woman in Red, and who just two years ago practically starved herself to death to attain a 31 pound weight loss on Celebrity Fit Club. That she has 'seen the light' and gone public with her vow to 'never diet again' speaks volumes toward inner peace.
Now, this is what I would call a positive role model…

Just a wee bit of administrivia to keep you up to date:
•
Fashion Riot has gone through a bit of a restructuring. Both Shop by Color and Riots of various stores are now accessible from the single menu. Products are now sorted by price.
• The old forum has been replaced by the one here in PSWSC. Links to the old forum will remain in place until the end of the month, for those who want to copy their own advertising posts from there to…

2/5/08 - Call to Arms: I'm looking for 10-25 PSWSC members / business owners who wish to have some very high visibility for their own business website at Perfectly Shaped World by becoming PSW Contributors (NOT a link exchange - MORE visible by far than that).
Each PSW Contributor will have his or her 500-character article displayed on a department main or second page, along with their name, website and a 120x60 max icon in a sidebar at the top right corner of their article. You can se…

In my opinion, Tim Gunn is the Alex Trebek of Fashion. Erudite and distinguished, with the ability to relate to anyone he encounters, and far from stand-offish. I've talked about his TV show, Tim Gunn's Guide to Style, in past blog entries, where we've focused on his list of essentials and shown how you can work that list to fine-tune your own wardrobe. Today's show brought those fashion elements together, along with a Life Stylist to help the show's featured guest recognize the obstacles in her…

I've become a complete and total fan of
What Not To Wear.
When I watched this show the first few times, I cringed, more at the way the co-hosts treated their fashion victims than at the fashions themselves. He's snide; she's acerbic; they're both brutal and sarcastic. But what finally hooked me was watching an entire episode from start to finish, and seeing that, despite their own personal styles, the advice is sol…

This makes me almost sad. A major national magazine, amidst subtle gasps and sideways glances, inking the revelation of using real people in ads.
Newsweek's full article includes a telling sentence: "Fashion-industry folks say the trend of using real people to sell clothes attests to a fatigue with skinny, expressionless models in ads and on runways." Something tells me that we real people still have a lot of work to do and that a lot of wake-up ca…

1/26 - I feel like Alice falling down the rabbit hole in here. Every time I turn around, I collide into yet another bit of conflicting data regarding plus size apparel sizing. Given that this blogware does not seem to let me add paragraph breaks, I'm going to take this out to one of my other blogs and post links to there. Let the madness continue!

1/25 - the investigation begins, on my quest to answer the niggling question: What Size are You?
Where am I going and why?
This quest actually started several months ago, when I launched the Personal Shopper feature at Perfectly Shaped World, and discovered that, even though I was selecting items of a specific size range, they weren't -the right size-.
Since I never meet my clients in person, my accuracy is based entirely on the ability to get the right data before I begin my fashion hunt. T…
