Where Plus Size is the New Normal

Hi Kathy,

In a few weeks I'll be able to wear sleevless shirts here in CA but I can't wear them to work unless a wear a balero or a short jacket. I'd like to find something with thin material and that doesn't tie in the front. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you!
Diane

Hi there, Diane :)

We carry a light-weight one-button cardigan style top for just that reason - They are nice and light-weight and longer as opposed to a bolero or a shrug - Great for upper arm coverage for work - We normally carry several colors - at the moment, we have two colors still available - a pretty light purple and a cool rust - If either of those colors work for you - those two colors are in stock (and on sale) at the moment in our store..

Here is a picture of the light purple:

If you are looking for more of a shorter style bolero or shrug or would prefer short sleeves - I will take a look around for you - Or perhaps you need something more neutral in color or black or white?

Hi Kathy,

Thank you. I'm looking for one with short sleeves and a lighter material. Most of them that I have seen are sweaters. Maybe they don't make them in the lighter feeling material? I'm looking for a white one. Is a shrug and a bolero the same thing?

Thanks for your help.

My pleasure, Diane :)

A Few Fun-Filled Facts About Boleros and. Shrugs -- What's the Difference? What a Great Question!

When they first came out, shrugs were basically only sleeves - In fact, to be honest, I am not sure how the current bolero-style jacket became referred to as a shrug.

A bolero is a short-waisted jacket that has a clasp in the front. It comes in short or long sleeves.

A shrug is also a type of jacket but normally covers the shoulders only and is often long-sleeved. It usually has a back piece and then goes over the shoulders and covers the arms. It normally has a very loose construction. A shrug normally has no closure or it has just a simple clasp or tie in the front, leaving the front of the body mainly exposed.

It's important to note that many retailers inter-mingle the two terms.. And many retailers actually mix the two words and refer to a particular garment as a shrug/bolero.
